Monitoring Of A Water Purified Distribution Loop

Share this news on :

Water is the most used utility in the pharmaceutical industry and mainly when preparing the vast majority of drugs. Different grades of water based on chemical and microbiological purity are required depending on the type of manufacture.

There are 3 different water qualities in the pharmaceutical industry:

  • Purified Water (PW), which is intended for the preparation of non-sterile drugs.
  • Highly Purified Water (HPW), which is used in the preparation of drugs requiring high biological quality.
  • Water For Injection (WFI), which is mandatory for the preparation of drugs for parenteral administration

The GMP compliance of the water production loops must be extended to the instrumentation and monitoring aspects. The use of online instrumentation is increasingly encouraged by the authorities because the measurements carried out “in real time” are not impacted by any contamination inherent in the collection or storage before measurement in the laboratory.

This is why IVTracer environmental monitoring and traceability platform integrates continuous measurement chains such as conductivity, temperature, dissolved ozone, or even TOC at the output of all water production systems, ensuring thus the online monitoring of these parameters and conditioning the storage and use.

The addition of a flow measurement is also recommended to validate the turbulent water flow and to avoid contamination related to stagnation in the distribution piping.
